A Flanders woman died after the car she was a passenger in was struck by another vehicle on County Road 51 in Eastport on Sunday afternoon, according to Suffolk County Police.
Rudi Ramirez, 22, of Flanders was driving south on County Road 51 when Madeline Keane, 51, of Farmingville made a left turn in front of Ms. Ramirez’s car at the highway’s intersection with County Road 111 at 2:47 p.m., police said. There is no traffic light at that intersection.
Both Ms. Ramirez and her passenger, 41-year-old Blanca Coslaya of Flanders, were injured in the crash. Ms. Coslaya was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, according to authorities.
Ms. Ramirez was transported by ambulance to the same hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Ms. Keane and her two passengers, meanwhile, were transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue and also treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Both the 1990 Toyota Camry that Ms. Ramirez was driving and the 2015 Hyundai Tucson that Ms. Keane was driving were impounded for routine safety checks. No charges have been filed against either driver, according to police.
