The East Hampton girls indoor track team got off on the right foot at its season-opening crossover meet on Sunday at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood, with a number of athletes finishing in the top 10 of their respective events.
Allura Leggard won the 55-meter dash in 7.73 seconds, Devon Brown placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 31 feet 1½ inches and the 4×200-meter relay team also placed third. Leggard, Gabby McKay, Tyra Stewart and Lina Bistrian finished the race in 1:57.87.
Liana Paradiso placed fourth in the 1,500-meter race in 5:30.97 with Caroline Jungck finishing 10th in 5:47.54. Elizabeth Bistrian finished fifth in the high jump, reaching 4 feet 6 inches. She reached the height in less attempts than teammate Aryanna Lyons, who placed sixth. Liz Bistrian also placed sixth in the 600-meter race in 1:46.82. Nina Piacentine placed seventh in the 1,500-meter race walk in 4:14.23 and Lyons finished 10th in 4:28.57. McKay leaped 14 feet 4 inches to finish eighth in the long jump and Sabrina Ricci placed 12th with a leap of 13 feet 10 inches. “I think the girls did really well,” East Hampton head coach Yani Cuesta said. “My jumpers came out really strong, especially because the weather is rarely conducive for jumping practice. Elizabeth Bistrian looked extremely strong in the 600 meters. We might actually have a group of good mid-distance runners, which are really hard to find.
“I’m looking forward to Saturday to see what else the girls can do and how quickly we can see their times and distances improve in a short amount of time,” she added.
The next two crossovers for the girls are scheduled for this Saturday, December 12, and Wednesday, December 16, at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood.
