Westhampton Beach, Hampton Bays Fall Athletes Given Postseason Awards


The Westhampton Beach football and girls volleyball teams went the furthest in their respective playoff tournaments and thus lead the list of postseason honorees from this past fall.

The football team upset Kings Park in the opening round of the Suffolk County Division III playoffs to reach the semifinals, where it met Sayville, which went on to win not only the county title but the Long Island Championship as well. Devin Laube and Dylan Laube were named All-County and First Team All-Division, while Brian Haley, Zak Jones, Max O’Henry and Bryce Phillips all earned First Team All-Division honors. Phillips was also Academic All-Division and a National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete. Joe Arnau and Zach Arrasate were Second Team All-Division players.

The girls volleyball team went 11-1 to win a share of the League V title with Kings Park. The Lady Canes then defeated Sayville and Islip to reach the county final, where they fell to Kings Park. Arianna Brierton was named Fifth-Team All-State, the only player in the state that was not in a Regional Final to make an All-State team, and she also made the All-County Tournament Team and was named All-Conference. Isabelle Smith was named League V Rookie of the Year, All-League and was also on the All-County Tournament Team. Shea Casey and Maddie Neuberger each were All-League, All-Conference and All-County Tournament Team, and Sarena Choi and Sunny Foglia were named All-League.

Tom Lambert was the lone All-Division player for the Westhampton Beach boys volleyball team. Jack Seelinger and Luke Lampasona were Honorable Mention All-Division players and Steven Nolan made the All-County Academic team.

The Hurricanes golf team had one of its better seasons, winning the League VIII Qualifying Tournament, after sharing the league title with East Hampton. Will Reid, Bobby Joyce and Thatcher Cord each earned All-League status.

The Westhampton Beach boys soccer team just missed making the playoffs with a 5-6-1 League V record but were still well-represented with postseason honors. Jay Brezinski earned All-County and All-Conference, while teammate Jeffrey Schulz was also All-Conference. Jared Percoco and Phil Daleo were All-League and Riley Smith was named to the Academic All-County team. Jill Mapley was named an All-Conference girls soccer player while Julia Strebel and Madison Skala were both All-League. Jamie Hoare was Academic All-County.

Jenny Jordan was the only cross country athlete, between both the boys and girls teams, to earn All-League honors. Marin Vander Schaaf, Juliet Tomaro and Onalee Batcheller were All-League during the girls tennis season. Caitlin Smith was given the Sportsmanship Award.

Devin Laube and Shea Casey were the recipients of the Suffolk Zone Award, given out by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and is awarded to both one male and one female student that meet a number of criteria, including having a 90 or above average in physical education, a GPA between 3.0-4.0 at the conclusion of his/her junior year and outstanding character.

Hampton Bays

The Baymen football team finished the season 4-4 and qualified for the postseason but lost in the first round at Mount Sinai. Tyler Carbone and Colin Smith were both named All-County players; Mat Niles, Travis Flynn and Ayden Muhs were First Team All-Division; and Josh Aube, Jeremy Bradley and Brandon Soleau were Second Team All-Division.

The girls volleyball team (9-3 League VII) also made the playoffs but lost in the first round to county finalist Bayport/Blue Point. Alexis Fotopoulos, Camila Hernandez, Riess Lovett, Liz Ottati and Amelia Salvatore each were named All-League, with Fotopoulos also receiving an All-County Tournament distinction. Niamh Cantwell was selected Honorable Mention All-League.

Gabby Morea, Kaylee Catena, Sydney Caldwell and Drew Zaweski were All-League during the gymnastics season. Zaweski was also named a Scholar 
Athlete and Katie McNamara was Honorable Mention All-League.

Elmer Ramirez and Jack Seabury were All-Conference for the Baymen soccer team. Jason Ramos was All-League. Laura Zaweski was All-League for the girls soccer team.

Anna Harris, Ivana Ocampos, Gia Rosante and Magdalena Wrobel all earned All-League honors during the girls tennis season. Alicia Golyski was given the Sportsmanship Award. Chris Downs was All-League for the boys cross country team.

Tyler Carbone and Alexis Fotopoulos were given the school’s Suffolk Zone Awards.
