East Quogue Community Notes, July 21


Turtles, turtles everywhere! Our native box turtles can be found peeking out from under flowers, strolling my garden paths and cooling off in the woods. My newest male “friend” loves my wild cat’s food and can be seen lounging in her small food dish, happily and slowly eating away while Emmy Lou gives him a disdainful “whatever” stare.Well, you asked for it and here it is! So, please join me in an enthusiastic round of applause for our award-winning East Quogue seniors who graduated from Westhampton Beach High School. This year’s scholarship winners are: Nick Arpino—Jeanne and Max Block Memorial Scholarship, Lillian Cara Everhart Memorial Scholarship, Anita S. Appel Scholarship and Westhampton Beach Theatre Booster Club Award; Nicholas Auletti—Westhampton Beach Theatre Booster Club Award; Brandon Bullock—James J. Merle, M.D. Rotary Scholarship, East Quogue Fire Department Memorial Scholarship, Hurricane Educational Foundation Scholarship, Kiwanis Club of Greater Westhampton Award and Anita S. Appel Scholarship; Sarah Daniels—Quogue Fire Department “Scoog” Scholarship; Tyler Davonski—Quogue Fire Department “Scoog’’ Scholarship.

Also, Caitlyn DeCara—East Quogue Civic Association Award, East Quogue Community PTA Award, Hampton Bays Lions Club Scholarship and Anita S. Appel Scholarship; Jacqueline DeVito—Westhampton Chamber of Commerce Fitichie Scholarship; Demi Diaz—Westhampton Beach Teachers’ Association Significant Improvement Award; Connor Glynn—JoAnne Doyle Memorial Scholarship; Taylor Gregory—East Quogue Community PTA Award, East Quogue Fire Department Memorial Scholarship, East Quogue Teachers’ Association Scholarship and Lillian Cara Everhart Memorial Scholarship; Megan Kuroski—Saint Mark’s Church Award; David Mangusso—Flying Point Foundation for Autism Scholarship; Samantha Murphy—Millard and Rowena Memorial Scholarship and Anita S. On a higher scholastic level, Matthew DiLandro was named to the dean’s honor list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Matt is majoring in computer science at America’s oldest technological research university.

And Jacqueline Kandell made the dean’s list at SUNY New Paltz. Jacqui earned the commendation for her outstanding academic achievement.

On The Calendar

Monday, July 25: Hampton Bays Civic Association monthly meeting, 6 p.m., at the Southampton Town Community Center located at 25 Ponquogue Avenue in Hampton Bays. Doctor James Cervino will discuss Nutrient Pollution and Herbicides and Its Effects on Long Island Marine Ecosystems and Human Health.” Please note the time change. Everyone is welcome.

Tuesday, July 26: East Quogue Village Green Summer Concert Series continues with Badlands playing the music of Bruce Springsteen. The show starts at 7 p.m. There is no cost to attend and all are welcome.

Tuesday, July 26: “An Evening with Jim Fargiano: Messages from the Other Side,” from 7 to 10 p.m., at Raphael’s Vineyard located at 39390 Main Road, Route 25, in Peconic. Tickets cost $60. For tickets or more information, visit Jim Fargiano.com.
