A 42-year-old contractor from Shirley was arrested last week, several months after Westhampton Beach Village Police said he took $12,500 from a client and then failed to complete repairs.
Scott Malone was paid that amount by a tenant of a second-floor apartment above the Patio Restaurant on Main Street last September to complete carpentry work, according to Westhampton Beach Detective Ed Hamor. Immediately after being paid, Mr. Malone stopped returning the victim’s calls and failed to perform any of the promised repairs, police said.
The tenant reported the incident to police earlier this year, and they, in turn, contacted Mr. Malone’s parole officer. Authorities could not say why he was on parole.
Mr. Malone was arrested at 11:30 a.m. on July 13 on Johnson Avenue in Bohemia by Westhampton Beach Police, and charged with one count of third-degree grand larceny, a felony.
He was arraigned later that afternoon before Westhampton Beach Village Justice Robert A. Kelly Jr. and released after posting $1,000 cash bail. Mr. Malone is due back in court on Wednesday, August 17.
