Two East Quogue Teens Charged With Stealing Guns, Ammo From Hamlet Home

Two teenagers are facing felony burglary charges after authorities say they broke into an East Quogue home and stole guns and ammunition over the weekend.

Southampton Town Police said Caleb Flanagan, 19, of East Quogue and a 16-year-old boy, also from East Quogue, waited for the owners of a Fairline Drive home to leave before breaking into the house on Saturday night and stealing two shotguns, a rifle, ammunition, $300 in cash and a laptop. Police declined to say if the two men knew the owners of the house that they targeted. The burglary was reported to authorities at 11:30 p.m.

Mr. Flanagan was arrested almost a full day later, at 11:04 p.m. Sunday, at police headquarters on Old Riverhead Road in Hampton Bays following an investigation, police said. They declined to offer any additional details about how they linked the 16-year-old boy to the crime, or where he was arrested and when.

Both were charged with one count of second-degree burglary, a felony, according to authorities.

Mr. Flanagan was arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court on Monday and released after posting $1,000 cash bail, officials said. Bail was set at $31,100 cash for the 16-year-old boy, who was also arraigned on Monday, and he was remanded to the Suffolk County Jail in Riverside after failing to post, officials said.

Both are due back in court at a later date.

Police said that all three guns have been recovered.
