Southampton High School

Senior Mallory McMahon has been selected by the Student Council as Lions Club Student of the Month for May. Active in the Student Council, Mallory has been a class representative all four years, as well as junior class co-president, president of the National Honor Society, a member of the Foreign Language Honor Society, lacrosse and math teams, and is involved with the Stock Exchange and Financial Literacy Club. She is the daughter of Kenneth and Jackie McMahon of Southampton.

Mackenzie Harrington, a senior, has been chosen as the May Rotary Student of the Month by the Student Council. Mackenzie is a member of both the National and Foreign Language honor societies, senior class treasurer, and an all-division field hockey player. This fall she will attend the University of Vermont where she will major in English. Mackenzie is the daughter of Deborah and Kevin Harrington of Southampton.

Plant Sale Set

Tuckahoe School, on North Magee Street, will hold a plant sale on May 6 and 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will include hanging baskets, herbs, vegetables and annuals for Mother’s Day planting. Proceeds will benefit the Tuckahoe School PTO.

A “Meet the Candidates Night” moderated by the League of Women Voters will be held on Wednesday, May 12, at 7 p.m.

The following students were named to the High Honor and Honor rolls for the third quarter:

Eighth grade High Honor Roll: Noelle Crough, Kasandra Taraku, Pahola Tene, Sarah Warren, Emily Christian, Jake Marano, Christian Westerhoff, Eryk Kropiwnicka, Caroline Rumph, Jeremy Schwartz, Erik Bartolon, Satish Mohan and Jordan Sundberg.

Eighth grade Honor Roll: Jordan Jarrin, Daniella Gonzalez, Leonardo Souza, Stephen Gerzack, David Kirshy, Jason Aguilera and Nathalia Valencia.

Seventh grade High Honor Roll: Michele Abatangelo, Angelica Platt, Devin Elar, Kyla Seymore, Delaney Jones, Ana Martin, Christian Prag, Lorenzo Rodriguez, Alexis Rosko, Brandon Taraku, Alex Patricolo, Andrew Ridgway and Casey Gise.

Seventh grade Honor Roll: Harrison Aponte, McClane Farnam, Andrea Quezada, Gemma Caglioti, Kadesha Joseph, Roger Llivisaca, Thomas Roughan and Nicholas Youmans.

Sixth grade High Honor Roll: Devin D’Agostino, Ava Klinge, Nicholas Marano, William Nadal, William Steinbrecher, Michael Cenzoprano, Lana Johnson, Anthony Llivisaca, Samantha Gerzack, Chloe Scheuch and Daniel Beckman.

Sag Harbor Elementary

An Open House will be held on Thursday, May 13, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. This annual event is an opportunity for friends, family members, and the community to view the work that the students have produced throughout the year.

Fifth-grader Isabel Peters showed pictures at Morning Program of her team participating at a fund-raiser for Katy’s Courage. They raised more than $1,000 by walking the track at SYS in Southampton all night.

A new theme, sports, was introduced at Morning Program by Principal Matt Malone and Spanish teacher Rafaela Messinger. As part of the presentation, they recognized third-grader Adam Busiello, who is the New York State Wrestling Champion in his division.

This week’s fifth grade announcers are Chloe Collette-Schindler and Ella Parker.

Bridgehampton School

The senior class trip to Orlando, Florida, last week packed in three full days visiting Animal Kingdom, Epcot Center, Blizzard Beach, Magic Kingdom and MGM Movie Studios. The trip culminated in Grad Night 2010 at the Magic Kingdom.

Dr. Lois R. Favre has been appointed as the school’s next superintendent. Dr. Favre begins her tenure on July 1 and will replace Dr. Dianne Youngblood, who will retire in August.

Kindergarten through sixth grades celebrated Earth Day by picking up trash and debris at Mecox Beach. The students enjoyed doing their part in keeping our community clean.

Stella Maris School

The Parent Association’s inaugural Charity Golf Outing is fast approaching. The event will take place on Friday, May 21, at Gardiner’s Bay Country Club on Shelter Island. In addition to a day of golf, there will be a late afternoon cocktail party.

Fourth Grade Fund-Raiser

The committee for the Southampton Elementary School’s fourth grade moving up ceremony will hold a plant sale on Thursday and Friday, May 6 and 7, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day on the school grounds. In addition, a yard sale will be held at the school on Saturday, May 8, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
