The East Hampton Town Board on August 4 approved the purchase of 25.7 acres of wooded land in northern Wainscott with $3.2 million from the town’s Community Preservation Fund.
The parcel, which is located at 198 Six Pole Highway, is owned by a corporation called One Nine Six Three Inc., and has a system of trails already running through it. The Town Board unanimously approved the purchase.
At a public hearing on the proposal earlier that evening, two residents of the Freetown neighborhood of East Hampton urged the Town Board to restart negotiations for the preservation of a 9-acre parcel on Middle Highway and Oakview Highway.
Town Board members said the town made the property’s owner, Ronald Webb, an offer earlier this year, but he declined. Supervisor Bill Wilkinson said the town would continue to negotiate.
