Swimmers Enjoy Great Conditions For Amagansett Open Swim

A number of East Hampton Ocean Rescue volunteers watched their children either win or place in the third annual East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue Open Water Swim of Amagansett on Saturday, August 13.

Georgia Bogetti, the daughter of East Hampton Ocean Rescue volunteer Jeff Bogetti, came in first of the half-mile swim. Jenna Rocker placed second in the event while Mia Karlin-Capello took third. And placing fourth was P.J. Calabrese Jr., the son of volunteer P.J. Calabrese Sr.

Matt O’Grady won the two-mile swim with Michael Petrzela coming in second. Adam Fitzner placed third and Thomas Brierly finished fourth. Thomas is the son of Steve Brierly and the nephew of Craig Brierly, both East Hampton Ocean Rescue volunteers.

Griffin Taylor won the one-mile swim with Charlotte Rosenberg taking second place. Sophia Taylor, Griffin’s sister, placed third while Andrew Thompson placed fourth.

Race organizer Jim Arnold said 75 swimmers participated in the race, with the proceeds benefitting the East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue.

“It went very well,” he said. “Almost no wind, warm water and no jellyfish, so it was a great day for a swim. We had some really great folks come out and support ocean rescue.”
