Former Southampton Resident Leigh Berglund Dies April 16

Leigh Hildreth Berglund died at his home in Orient on April 16. He was 88.

Born in Southampton, he graduated from Southampton High School and the U.S. Maritime Academy at Fort Schuyler, after which he served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II. After his discharge, he attended and graduated from New York University and worked as a physical therapist at Southampton Hospital and in private practice.

Mr. Berglund loved to hunt, fish and spend time on his boat. He was a longtime member and past commodore of the Southampton Yacht Club and served on the Southampton Board of Education.

Mr. Berglund is survived by his wife, Joan; two sons, Leigh Jr. and wife Eva, and Nils; five stepchildren, Amy Worth and husband Thomas Payne, Nancy Minett and husband Jeff, Alice Denison and husband Dave, James Ledogar and wife Donna, and Kate Ledogar and her husband David Grogan; and seven step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were private.
