League Of Women Voters Of The Hamptons To Hold Annual meeting On May 5


The League of Women Voters Of The Hamptons will hold its 36th annual meeting featuring guest speaker Barbara Thomas on Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m. at the Water Mill Community House, located at 743 Montauk Highway.

Ms. Thomas, a member of the New York State Steering Committee for the Women’s Equality Coalition, and a board member and the pay equity co-specialist for the League of Women Voters of New York State, will present the talk “Leveling the Playing Field for Women.” Her talk will cover the work of the New York State Women’s Equality Coalition, which numbers more than 500 groups, the 10-point plan of the New York State Women’s Equality Agenda, and how the legislation is faring in the New York State Legislature.

The meeting will also include the adoption of the group’s 2013-14 budget, election of its officers and directors, and adoption of local programs.

Rounding out the meeting, the Betty Desch Student Leadership Award of $1,000 will be presented to a graduating senior from a local high school and Pierson High School students Thomas “Tiger” Britt and Jake Ruehl will speak about their experiences at the New York State League Education Foundation’s “Students Inside Albany” conference.
