Southampton Town will host a planning forum on Monday for residents to offer their input on the design of Good Ground Park in Hampton Bays.
The forum is open to all residents and will be held at the Hampton Bays Community Center on Montauk Highway on May 13, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The town will have versions of various design proposals for the mixed-use development envisioned on the 38 acres of land north of downtown Hampton Bays, which the town purchased in 2003.
At the time, the stated vision for the property was for an expansive public park interwoven with a smattering of commercial parcels for needed business space.
“This site has long been envisioned as a place for a community park, and an attraction with the potential to spur the revitalization of the downtown area,” Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst said in a statement. “We need to develop a plan that the community supports so we can begin to make meaningful investments in making this vision a reality.”
An earlier plan for the park was criticized by residents.
At Monday’s forum, town officials will take a different approach: posting sketches of the concepts they are considering and asking community members to weigh in on the components of each that are appealing to them.
“The goal is to create a phased-in approach that will allow us to implement stages of the design as funding becomes available,” Ms. Throne-Holst said in the statement.
