Southampton Town Employee Arrested For DWI While On The Clock

Southampton Town Police arrested a town Parks and Recreation Department employee this week after he was involved in a car accident in a municipal vehicle while intoxicated.

Kevin Fennell, 52, of Hampton Bays was charged with one count of felony DWI and failing to use his designated lane, a violation, following a car crash on Saturday morning. According to a police report, shortly after noon on May 11, Mr. Fennell was driving a town-owned pickup truck on County Road 39 in Southampton, near the intersection of North Bishop Lane, when he collided with a sedan.

While investigating the scene, police detected a smell of alcohol on Mr. Fennell. He failed a field sobriety test and was taken to police headquarters for arraignment.

It was unclear what position Mr. Fennell holds with the parks department, but he was on the clock at the time of the accident.

Both the driver and a passenger in the other vehicle, who have not been identified, were transported to Southampton Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and the eastbound lane of County Road 39 was briefly closed on Saturday while responders cleared the road.

Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst did not respond to requests seeking comment on the incident this week.
