Judge Nelson Meringola, a 30-year resident of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, died on May 9. He was 80.
Born on March 5, 1933, to Dominic and Florence (Bennett) Meringola in Huntington, he moved from Southampton to Arizona with his wife of 41 years, Miriam, who survives him.
Judge Meringola served as police chaplain from 1986 to 1997 and an associate magistrate in the Lake Havasu City Municipal Courts. His career spanned decades of government work, union projects and private construction activities.
Judge Meringola was a member and elder of the Lakeview Community Church.
In addition to his wife, Judge Meringola is survived by a son, Brian Meringola of Southampton; two daughters, Pamela Grutzner and Penny Thomas, both of Patchogue; and stepchildren, Linda Lockhart of North Carolina and Teddy Zaluski of Water Mill. He is also survived by three sisters; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Bruce Meringola.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 18, at Lakeview Community Church; Pastor Dale Roy officiated. Memorial donations may be made to Lakeview Community Church, 1699 Acoma Boulevard West, Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403.
