Two Charged With DWI After Three-Car Crash On Napeague Stretch

A three-car accident involving a pair of drivers charged with DWI early Sunday morning sent both to the hospital with serious injuries, according to East Hampton Town Police.

Nicole Zizelis, 51, of Amagansett was driving a 2010 Honda Accord in the westbound lane of Montauk Highway, near Napeague Meadow Road, when she collided with an eastbound 2008 Jeep Wrangler being driven by Hari Kalyan, 33, of Brooklyn. A third vehicle, a taxi driven by Muhammad Fahim, 27, of Islandia, then struck the Jeep, police said.

The crash occurred shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.

Mr. Kalyan was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by a Suffolk County Medevac helicopter, according to police, and Ms. Zizelis was transported by ambulance to Southampton Hospital. The extent of their injuries was not disclosed.

Police charged both Ms. Zizelis and Mr. Kalyan with DWI, a misdemeanor, and released them on appearance tickets. They are due back in court at a later date.

Mr. Fahim, who was not injured in the crash, has not been charged by police.

Montauk Highway was closed in both directions at the intersection with Napeague Meadow Road while police investigated the accident.
