The East Quogue Chamber of Commerce and Civic Association are hoping for sunny skies on Saturday, June 29, the rain date for their celebration of the 10th anniversary of the hamlet’s Village Green.
The day of family fun was set to take place on Saturday, May 25, but was spoiled by rain. Bob Kandell, who sits on the Civic Association’s board of directors, said the event will now take place from noon to 4 p.m. on June 29 and offer the same attractions: face-painting and a double slide for children, live music and food vendors.
On Tuesday, he said he was still awaiting confirmation that some of the food vendors could make the new date, but was hopeful that the Southampton Publick House, Scotto’s Pork Store of Hampton Bays, the New Moon Cafe in East Quogue and others would all be on board. He said he expects to book a different band, as X-Session, the cover band that was scheduled for the original date, is not available on June 29.
In 1999, Southampton Town used money from its Community Preservation Fund to buy the 3.6-acre property from the Wetterau family. The park was completed three years later.
“We have such a great town and we’re going to make it happen,” Donna Lanzetta, president of the chamber, said on Tuesday about the celebration.
Mr. Kandell added that the organizations are looking for additional sponsors to help make the event a success. Anyone interested can contact him at (631) 653-3991.
