Schmidt Racks Up Accolades After Banner Season For Southampton Baseball

Senior Wyatt Schmidt had a banner season for the Southampton baseball team in the spring, leading the Mariners to the Suffolk County Class B Championship. The number-one starter earned All-Long Island Second Team honors, was the League VIII MVP, and a finalist for the Carl Yastrzemski Award, given to Suffolk County’s top baseball player. Schmidt was also chosen as the Most Outstanding Pitcher in League VIII, which made him a finalist for the Paul Gibson Award, given to Suffolk County’s top pitcher. He was also named the Small Schools Tournament MVP for Class B.

Schmidt was only the second player in Southampton history to earn distinction as an All-Long Island pick. He was also recognized with All-League and All-County honors. Schmidt will continue his baseball career at Catholic University in the fall.
