Responders Rescue Child Found Unresponsive In Hampton Bays Pool

Police and emergency responders helped to revive a child who was found unresponsive in a pool off Rampasture Point in Hampton Bays on Sunday evening.

Southampton Town Police did not identify the child or reveal the gender or age, citing the “sensitive nature” of the investigation, according to a release. They also did not clarify if the child was swimming at the time of the incident, or if he or she had wandered into the pool by accident.

Officers from the department and the New York State Police responded to the home after receiving a 911 call and began resuscitation efforts, which were continued by Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance personnel.

Police said the child was transported by ambulance to Southampton Hospital, where the ambulance personnel and hospital staff were able to restart the child’s heart. Once the child was stabilized, an ambulance transported the child to the Stony Brook University Hospital for additional treatment.

The incident is under investigation by the Southampton Town Police Detective Division.

Detective Michael Smith, who prepared a release about the incident, could not be reached for comment.
