A 75-year-old Westhampton Beach man was pronounced dead at Peconic Bay Medical Center on July 7 after his wife found him at the bottom of the pool at their Westhampton Beach home off Stacy Drive.
Westhampton Beach Lieutenant Trevor Gonce said New York State Police are investigating the incident because the Westhampton Beach detective was out at the time. The lieutenant did not identify the victim.
State Police Investigator Dennis Cavanagh, who also declined to identify the victim, said the county medical examiner has not yet determined a cause of death, though he said foul play is not suspected.
The victim’s wife alerted neighbors, who were able to pull him out of the pool, Lt. Gonce said. The call came in at 3:38 p.m., and officers arrived two minutes later. They performed CPR on the victim, who was lying on the pool deck, until a Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance arrived to transport the victim to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the man’s wife reported having seen him about 30 minutes prior to finding him unconscious.
