East Quogue Community Notes, July 25

My wildlife garden is thriving and I am now the proud “grandma” of one baby groundhog. Of course, his chubby parents, East Quogue George and Georgiana, have been profusely complimented. But Shirley Carter has outdone me. She has three baby groundhogs running around in her garden. Congratulations, Shirley!East Quogue’s favorite summertime dining spot, Dockers Waterside Restaurant and Marina, was overflowing with celebrities last week. Eric Trump, accompanied by nine friends, as well as baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield were spotted dining at our hamlet’s beautiful bayside restaurant.

And on Monday, July 15, things were really hoppin’ at our local hot spot when several scenes from the movie “The Other Women” were shot on location with both the marina and sunset serving as a backdrop. Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann, as well as swimsuit supermodel Kate Upton, star in director Nick Cassavetes’s upcoming 20th Century Fox film. The filming wrapped up around 6:30 that evening.

News of the honors awarded to our hamlet’s amazing college students just keeps rolling in.

Christian Thienel earned dean’s list honors at Tufts University in Massachusetts while Andie Felsberg and Jennifer Marie Beglane were named to the dean’s list at the University of Rhode Island. And, closer to home, Brooke Shaughnessy made the dean’s list at Hofstra University where she is majoring in public relations.

And last but certainly not least, the magnificent photopaintings of Cheryl Machat Dorskind are on display at The Remsenburg Academy through Sunday, August 11. The gallery is open Thursday through Sunday, from noon until 5 p.m., or by appointment by calling (888) 395-1666).
