Riverhead Foundation Releases Five Sea Turtles From Hampton Bays

Two lines of spectators, spanning from the lifeguard stand out to approximately 30 feet into the Atlantic Ocean, gathered on Ponquogue Beach on Saturday afternoon to watch the release of five sea turtles. The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation released Banzai, Sebastian, Cody, Tommy the Turtle and Doc back into the wild after each spent more than six months rehabilitating at the center. Four of the turtles have the potential to grow to 500 pounds except for Doc, which is a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle and will grow to about 150 pounds.
