East Hampton Town Police Break Up Fight With Pepper Spray

East Hampton Town Police officers used pepper spray to break up a fight at 4:31 a.m. on June 23 in front of Coffee Tauk on South Edison Avenue in Montauk, they reported this week.

In the end, one person was injured and two were arrested.

Police said the fight started when an item was thrown at a car by a group that included the two young men who were charged. When the victims confronted them, James M. Bogetti, 21, of Montauk and a 20-year-old Montauk resident, who was charged with violations only, used racial slurs and the fight ensued, according to police. Both men repeatedly punched and kicked their victims, according to police, and ran from the five officers who responded.

Once they were located, Mr. Bogetti was charged with assault in the third degree, a misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a violation, and the 20-year-old was charged with disorderly conduct and harassment in the second degree, both violations.

One of the victims suffered pain and swelling in the back of the head, forehead and rib cage, and was taken to Southampton Hospital by Montauk Ambulance, according to police.

Mr. Bogetti was released on $200 cash bail.
