UPDATE: 6:45 p.m. Monday

Southampton Town Police Sergeant Howard Kalb said both people, whom he described as “swimmers in distress,” are safe and that they declined medical attention upon reaching the dock at Oakland’s Restaurant on Dune Road in Hampton Bays.

Sgt. Kalb said the two people arrived at the waterfront restaurant on a boat, but did not know if it was aboard their vessel.

The Coast Guard was called off after the Town Police received confirmation that the two people were out of the water.
