Westhampton Community Notes, August 22

A few weeks ago I mentioned that local artist Mym Tuma was raffling off one of her paintings at the Mary O. Fritchie Art Show held on the Westhampton Beach Village Green the weekend of August 3-4. Well, Mym sent me an email this week to let everyone know that Scott Collins of Remsenburg was lucky enough to win a print of “Rocky Shores Blue.” Congratulations, Scott!Leslie Orofino will be performing at the gazebo on the Westhampton Beach Village Green this Thursday, August 22, at 7:30 p.m., and the show will be the second to last performance of the 2013 Summer Concert Series. Ms. Orofino has entertained sold out audiences at The Oak Room in New York City for more than 20 years and will perform an evening of cabaret.

The final concert of this summer’s series is set for next Thursday, August 29, and will feature the 55-piece concert band The North Shore Pops. They will perform Broadway show tunes and Hollywood music, just like they have for more than two decades.

As always, don’t forget you chairs, blankets and bug spray, and in case of rain, the concerts will be held in the Westhampton Beach High School auditorium.

Quogue Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5350 will host its annual Craft Fair on Saturday, August 24, from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., at 125 Montauk Highway in Quogue. The rain date is Sunday, August 25. There will be 80-plus vendors, as well as a Chinese auction, raffles, a 50/50 raffle and the barbecue will be fired up, too. All proceeds will be shared with veterans assistance programs and local scholarships.

The Hampton Synagogue will host its annual free concert on Saturday, August 24, at 9 p.m., at the synagogue located at 154 Sunset Avenue in Westhampton Beach. Part of the synagogue’s two-day cultural celebration, the concert will feature the next generation of young superstars from the National Yiddish Theatre—Folksbiene. Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Long Island is hosting a celebration next month to thank and bid farewell to longtime employee William Tymann, the father of former Town Trustee Brian Tymann of Westhampton Beach. The party is set for Thursday, September 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Hotel Indigo off Route 25 in Riverhead.

Bill has worked with Big Brothers/Big Sisters for 34 years and helped change the lives of many children over that time. To show their appreciation, organizers are naming the entranceway to their Levittown office “The William Tymann Grand Entrance.” Congrats, Bill!
