Well, here we go again. The Southampton Town supervisor’s seat, as well as two Town Board seats, are up for election this November—not that you need me to remind you. Pretty soon, the campaign signs will start popping up all over the place and, everywhere you go, there will be someone sporting a red, white and blue button and seeking our opinions of the candidates, pad in hand.I will spare you of my opinion—you’re welcome. All I will say is that all this political nonsense makes me a little nuts, mostly because voting is a guessing game as you do not truly know the opinions of the candidates until they are sitting in office. Until then, the best way to get to know them is to sit down and chat with them about their ideas and beliefs.

Well, we have a local guy—Brad Bender of Northampton—who is making his second run for the Southampton Town Board, and he would like to give you a chance to know him. He is hosting a meet and greet next Saturday, September 21, from 4 to 6 p.m., in the rose garden of his home on Topping Drive.

The suggested donation for this fundraiser is $50. For more details, visit www.BradBender.com/events.

It seems that August must have been the month to get engaged around here, at least according to all the posts I have seen on the social networking sites. While that is romantic, there is nothing romantic about planning a wedding and, for some couples, it becomes just plain insanity.

That’s where Atlantis Banquets and Events, the event planning portion of the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center in downtown Riverhead, steps in. Officials, with the help of the Hyatt Place East End Resort and Marina Hotel next door, are hosting a bridal showcase on Wednesday, September 18, from 6 to 9 p.m., in the aquarium’s Sea Star Ballroom.

Attendees can visit with photographers, bands and deejays, room designers, tuxedo rental and bride dressmakers while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and sampling wedding cakes and desserts. The best part is that all guests will have the chance to win a three-night honeymoon stay at the Verandah Resort & Spa in Antigua!

Tickets cost $15 each if you preregister for the bridal showcase; the price jumps to $20 if you wait to buy them at the door. For more details, please call (631) 574-8008, ext. 125.

School might be just about to start again, but that does not mean you cannot still have your fill of fun and games—the game of golf, to be more specific.

The Riverhead Rotary Club’s 22nd annual Bruce Stark Memorial Golf Championship is set for Wednesday, September 25, at the Baiting Hollow Golf Club. The tournament raises money for the Stark Scholarship, which is given to deserving students attending Riverhead and McGann-Mercy high schools.

Brunch and registration begin at 9:30 p.m., followed by tee-off at 11 a.m. A fantastic “after party” will follow.

Tickets are $250 per player, or $1,000 per foursome. Tickets to the dinner only are $75 each. To purchase your tickets, please call Kimberly Cioch at (631) 537-8285.
