The East Hampton girls swim team kicked off the fall campaign with a tri-meet with Huntington and Lindenhurst on Friday in Lindenhurst, beating Lindenhurst, 54-46.
The Lady Bonackers swept the relays, with Lindsey Stevens, Shannon Ryan, Morgan German and Marina Preiss teaming up in the 200-yard medley relay; German, Paola Criollo, Ryan and Lilah Minetree teaming up in the 200-yard freestyle relay; and German, Cecilia De Havenon, Minetree and Preiss teaming up in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Preiss swam well in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles, with times of 25.78 seconds and 55.12, respectively. Minetree had the team’s top time in the 200-yard freestyle, 2:11.73; MariKate Ryan had the top time for East Hampton in the 200-yard individual medley (2:33.14); German led the team in the 100-yard butterfly (1:12.14); De Havenon had her team’s top time in the 500-yard freestyle (5:55.47); Stevens led the team in the 100-yard backstroke; and Shannon Ryan had the top time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:25.38).
As has been consistent with the pattern in the last few years, the swim team has grown once again this season and counts more members on the squad this year than it ever has. A total of 28 swimmers—four eighth-graders, seven freshmen, nine sophomores and eight seniors—are on the roster.
East Hampton will be back in action on Friday, September 20, against Brentwood/Bay Shore, on the road, at 5 p.m. The Lady Bonackers will host the next two meets after that, a matchup with Harborfields on Monday, October 7, at 4:30 p.m. and a battle with Sayville/Bayport on October 10 at 5 p.m.
