Southampton High SchoolSenior Oscar Mahoney was recognized at the October 1 regular Board Of Education meeting by Dr. Brian Zahn and Dr. Kim Rodriguez. Oscar has been identified by the National Hispanic Recognition Program as an academically outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school student. Each year, the NHRP honors about 5,000 of the highest-scoring students from more than 250,000 Hispanic/Latino juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT.

Senior Scout Mercer has been named the September Rotary Student of the Month. Scout has served as the secretary of the National Honor Society, is a member of the Latin and Spanish honor societies, and has been on the High Honor Roll throughout her high school career. When she is not participating in Rotary Interact Club, she enjoys reading, shooting and writing. Scout is the daughter of Stephanie and Trevor Mercer.Southampton Intermediate SchoolTeam SIS participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on Sunday, October 6, at Dowling College. The team, led by teachers Kristen Minter and Mei-Lynn Guerrero, raised more than $1,000 for the event.

The school’s jazz band and the grade five and six strings held a car wash on Saturday, September 28, to raise money for their spring trip to Great Adventure. The students raised more than $1,200 toward the trip where they will perform for adjudication and enjoy some fun in the park.
