Southampton Town will hold a pair of public hearings on Tuesday, November 12, to consider the purchase and preservation of two properties—one in Hampton Bays and the other in Southampton Village—using money from its the Community Preservation Fund.
The Hampton Bays parcel includes 10 acres of marshlands off Red Creek Road and falls within the region designated as the Red Creek Pond Target Preservation Area. The region has been identified as a priority preservation area because of its estuarine environment.
The 10 acres that the town is proposing to purchase, for an as yet undisclosed price, is owned by the estate of Haris Wehrmann.
The parcel in Southampton Village, owned by James and Clariel Mulholland, totals 4.5 acres and is located on Meadow Lane. The proposed purchase price for the lot also has not yet been released.
Both purchases, if they advance, would be made using proceeds from the CPF, which draws its revenues from a 2-percent tax on real estate transfers within the town.
