The Eastport South Manor boys volleyball team split its matches last week losing, 3-2, at home to Northport on October 8, and rebounding to win, 3-1, at Center Moriches on Thursday, October 10.
ESM won the first set at Center Moriches, 25-22, but then lost the second set by the same score. The Sharks won sets three and four by scores of 25-17 and 25-18. Eric Ferrante had 48 assists, Jon Suarez had 27 kills, and Tyler Brandow had 12 kills.
ESM is 3-5 in league play, 3-6 overall.
The Lady Sharks won, 4-0, at Rocky Point on October 8, before losing, 3-1, at Harborfields on Thursday, October 10.
Nijay Brown had a goal and an assist in the win over Rocky Point. Tara Gomez, Rebecca Tooker and Kelsey Huff each had goals, and Sophia DiBlanda made seven saves for the shutout.
ESM is 3-6 in League V, 4-8 overall.
The Sharks were officially eliminated from postseason contention with two losses last week. ESM lost, 4-3, at Harborfields on October 9, then lost, 4-2, at home to Comsewogue the following day.
ESM is 1-7-2 in League V, 1-9-3 overall, one season after reaching the Suffolk County Class A finals.
The Lady Baymen lost, 5-0, at William Floyd on Friday. They were down by just a goal at halftime, but the Lady Colonials scored four second-half goals en route to the victory. Hampton Bays is 4-3-1 in League VIII this season, 5-3-1 overall.
The Lady Baymen suffered their second loss in League III last week, a 136.65-128.7 defeat at North Babylon/Deer Park on Thursday, October 10. Hampton Bays is 2-2 in league meets, 3-4 overall.
It was a close one, but the Hurricanes still remain winless after a 1-0 loss at Islip on Friday. Caleb Staneck scored with 22 minutes remaining in the first half for the Buccaneers, and that was the only goal the entire game. Ryan Burke made nine saves in goal for Westhampton Beach (0-8 League V, 0-11-1 overall).
The Lady Hurricanes dropped their lone game last week, 1-0, at home to Comsewogue on October 8. Dina Cefalu scored the game-winning goal with 8:35 left in the game for Comsewogue. Kathleen Mensch made 12 saves for Westhampton Beach, which is 1-6-1 in League V play, 2-8-1 overall.
The Hurricanes lost both of their matches last week, losing, 3-2, at home to Shoreham/Wading River on October 9 and then losing, 3-0, at home to West Islip on Friday. Westhampton Beach is 1-8.
The Sharks added two more victories to their impressive record with a 7-2 win at Hampton Hills on October 8 and an 8-1 victory at Mercy on Thursday, October 10. ESM is 8-1 in League VII, just a half game ahead of Mattituck in the standings, as of Tuesday morning.
The Hurricanes lost both of their matches last week. After losing, 9-0, at Southampton on October 8, Westhampton Beach lost, 6.5-2.5, at Center Moriches on Thursday, October 10. The Canes are 2-7 in League VIII play this season.
The Baymen lost, 6-3, to Mercy on October 8, then lost, 7.5-1.5, at Riverhead on Thursday, October 10, to fall to 1-8 in League VII.
