New York State Police arrested a Mastic man on Monday for allegedly robbing the Valero gas station off Montauk Highway in Westhampton Beach at gunpoint on November 30.
Police said Christopher M. Rojas, 27, was charged with second degree robbery, a felony, and is scheduled for arraignment in Westhampton Beach Justice Court on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
At about 5:15 a.m. on November 30 an employee of the gas station called Westhampton Beach Police to report that he had been robbed at gunpoint, police said.
State Police took over the investigation because Westhampton Beach Police did not have a detective available, officials said.
Police said they identified Mr. Rojas as a suspect after a Westhampton Beach Police officer conducted a traffic stop stemming from a suspicious vehicle complaint on Dune Road the day after the robbery. Police impounded the vehicle, and after obtaining a search warrant, they recovered evidence inside the vehicle that was associated with the robbery.
Police would not say what evidence was recovered, what type of weapon Mr. Rojas brandished, or if he made away with any money. It was also unclear where Mr. Rojas was arrested.
