Tenth Annual Polar Bear Plunge Takes Place Saturday Morning

The 10th annual Polar Bear Plunge at Coopers Beach in Southampton went off without a hitch on Saturday morning, with hundreds of people taking the plunge into 40 degree water.

Officials were unclear how much money the annual fundraiser, which benefits the Human Resources of the Hamptons food pantry, raised for the cause.

The weather outside, a balmy 27 degrees and snowing, did not stop the plungers, many of whom were donning costumes, from having fun. Some popular characters this year were a mermaid, Santa Claus, a group of elves, and a full business suit. Fan favorite, Village Mayor Mark Epley plunged dressed as Fred Flinstone, while his son, Zach, was Barney.
