Southampton Community Notes, December 19

It’s not too late to find that perfect gift for friends and loved ones before the big day next week. Actually, it’s pretty easy. The Southampton Chamber of Commerce has done all the hard work for local shoppers and will hold its Christmas Marketplace on Friday, December 20, through Sunday, December 22, at the Southampton Center on Jobs Lane. On Friday and Saturday the marketplace will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday, shoppers can visit from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Local and seasonal merchants including Arlotta Cashmere, Arlotta Food Studio, Ba6 Botanicals, Bambino’s Ravioli, Boathouse Road, East End Lights, Estée Lauder, the Friends of the Rogers Memorial Library book sale, Gems by Jeanne Marie, Hamptons Soaptique, Monty Breads, Southampton Artists Association, Talk Treats to Me, Tanya Tracy, The Golden Pear, Topiaire Flower Shop, and Topiaire Candy Shop will be on hand to assist shoppers.

The marketplace will get everyone into a holiday mood with festive jazz music by the ever popular Charles Certain on Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m. He’ll be playing both holiday favorites and famous originals. Stop by and check it out.

This year my little family of three (I included the dog), will be spending the holiday with my best friend, her boyfriend and roommate in Hampton Bays. I have already been assigned some much loved and particularly delicious Puerto Rican family recipes to prepare and am looking forward to having a very low-key Christmas surrounded by good friends and possibly my brother, down from Carmel, NY. So if I don’t see you frantically shopping for that last ingredient at 7-11 on Christmas morning, have a very healthy happy and Merry Christmas. También me gustaría desear a todos en la comunidad una feliz navidad y feliz año nuevo y el día tres reyes que viene!

The day after Christmas is usually reserved for lounging, returning unwanted presents and feasting on leftovers. This year, on Thursday, December 26, at 9:30 p.m., head on over to the Southampton Publick House and have a few drinks for a good cause at the “Charity On Tap,” special ladies night and raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

At the event hosted by DJ Tony Kerr, Ana Guarino will share facts about childhood cancer, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Hamptons Hustler team. In addition, Megan Flynn will be behind the bar serving up drink specials and donating her tips to St. Jude. “Charity on Tap” will also feature a raffle with items donated from local businesses. Admission is a $5 donation at the door.

For more information on how you can participate or contribute call Ms. Guarino at (631) 786-5493 or Ms. Flynn at (631) 774-0435.

It’s almost time to ring in 2014 and The Southampton Inn is celebrating with a night of dancing, open bar, dinner, champagne toast, dessert buffet and a DJ on Tuesday, December 31, starting at 8 p.m. The best part is that there is no need to worry about who is going to drive home, the evening includes overnight accommodations in one of its beautifully appointed guest rooms. Tickets are $399 per couple. Call to make reservations at (631) 283-6500.
