Sag Harbor School Board Seeks Public Input On Capital Projects

The Sag Harbor School Board on Monday night announced a schedule for public input on two capital bond projects voters approved last month.

Board members dedicated January 8 to a day-long session of “design focus group” meetings, where members of the public can share their thoughts on aspects of the school district’s facilities overhaul.

Attendees are free to pick and choose which meetings they attend, according to Interim Superintendent Dr. Carl Bonuso, since different people are focused on different aspects of the planned capital improvements.

“We’ll probably see a lot of parents of athletes come to talk about the turf field, some community members to talk about the parking lots, maybe a theater participant who has an opinion about the auditorium,” he said. “Not everyone wants to hear about every aspect.”

The schedule for the day of meetings, to be held at the location on which the talk is focused, is as follows: improvements to the Sag Harbor Elementary School gymnasium will be discussed from 9 to 9:45 a.m.; improvements to the Sag Harbor Elementary School parking lot from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m.; improvements to Pierson Middle/High School from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.; improvements to the Pierson auditorium from 12:15 to 1 p.m.; improvements to the Pierson shop and technology area from 1 to 1:45 p.m.; expansion of the Pierson kitchen from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. and the Pierson turf field and walking track from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.

Dr. Bonuso stressed Monday that the focus group meetings would not be the last opportunity for public input, but a solid starting point.
