Two cars were involved in black ice-related accidents on Noyac Road near Long Beach on Wednesday morning, police said.
The first vehicle slid off the road because of ice shortly after 8 a.m. and the second vehicle lost control at about 8:20 a.m. and struck the first vehicle as it was on the side of the road, Southampton Town Police Sergeant Susan Ralph said.
Sgt. Ralph said the incident was a minor fender bender and officers were dispatched to the scene. She said she is not sure if anyone was injured and added that other drivers should be wary of icy road conditions, particularly in the Noyac area.
“People should be aware that because it still is very cold right now there could be some black ice and they should be careful driving,” she said.
The Southampton Town Highway department was dispatched to put down sand and salt on the icy patches on Noyac Road as well as elsewhere in the town, Sgt. Ralph said.
