The East Hampton girls indoor track team piled up personal bests at its third crossover meet of the winter season on December 18 at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood.
The highest place-winner for the Lady Bonackers was Annie Schuppe, in the shot put. She placed sixth with a throw of 26 feet 10½ inches, a personal best. Nina Piacentine finished eighth in the 1,500-meter race walk with a personal-best time of 9:03.60.
A few of the first races at last week’s meet had to be clocked using handheld devices; typically, they’re tracked by a computerized timing system known as Fully Automated Time, or FAT, but the computer was malfunctioning.
Alyssa Bahel ran the 3,000-meter race for the very first time and finished eighth with a handheld time of 11:55. Allura Leggard placed ninth in the 55-meter dash with a handheld time of 7.9 seconds. Sadie Ward ran the 55-meter high hurdles and finished with a handheld time of 10.30 seconds, good enough for 11th place. East Hampton head coach Yani Cuesta said that even with an added 0.24 seconds in the FAT conversion, it’s still a personal best.
The 4×200-meter relay team of Ward, Katie Mendoza, Alexa Ward and Ana Toledo placed ninth in 2:11.26 FAT. Bahel, Elena Skerys, Devon Brown and Wylee Musnicki finished 10th in the 4×400-meter relay in 5:02.63 FAT. Mendoza competed in the triple jump and cleared 27 feet 7 inches to place 11th.
The boys indoor track team had a meet on Sunday, which occurred too late to appear in this week’s edition of The Press. Results from that meet will appear in the first edition of the new year.
