Seven matches into the League IV bowling season, a clear delineation has been made between the upper echelon teams and everyone else.
Southampton, Southold and Eastport South Manor have struggled to compete against the much larger schools in the league, like William Floyd, Middle Country and Longwood. The three smaller schools, which moved into League IV after League V was disbanded, have had success against each other—ESM has beaten Southold and Southampton, while Southampton’s two wins have come against Southold. The teams were forced to move to League IV after several schools, including East Hampton, Westhampton Beach and Mount Sinai, dropped their bowling programs.
Both ESM and Southampton are 2-5 on the year. ESM sat in fifth place with 84 points in 21 games bowled, while the Mariners were seventh of the eight teams with 72 points in 21 games bowled. Floyd was in the lead with 172 points in 21 games bowled.
Doug Pinelli has been ESM’s most consistent bowler, rolling a 630 or higher series in every match. He had a 709 series in a loss to Floyd on December 16 and a 675 series in a loss to Longwood the next day. Ryan Lennon rolled a 565 series against Floyd, James Sherwood had a good effort with a 570 series against Longwood, and Joseph Heimann rolled a 536 in a loss to Middle Country on December 19.
Mike Cenzoprano has been leading Southampton. He rolled a 641 series in a loss to Floyd on December 19, and had a 574 in a loss to Longwood on December 3 and a 573 in a loss to ESM on December 12. Brian Knoebel rolled a 561 series in a loss to Longwood on December 3, while Tyler Sanders rolled a 528 in a loss to Sachem North on December 16 and Chris Bautista rolled a 511 in a win over Southold on December 18.
