Southampton Town Police arrested a Hampton Bays man was arrested Tuesday night and charged with several misdemeanors after police said he was caught rummaging through several cars parked at a house party.
Alexander L. Thomas, 18, was arrested at about 10:47 p.m. following a short foot chase.
Police said they received a 911 call from a resident who reported that Mr. Thomas had been spotted rummaging through several cars in the resident’s driveway, and fled on foot after being confronted by one of the residents.
Officers said they set up a perimeter to contain Mr. Thomas and called for K9 assistance from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s office.
While police were searching for Mr. Thomas, another resident reported seeing him in their backyard. Police responded to the residence and apprehended Mr. Thomas following a short foot pursuit, they said. He was identified as the man seen rummaging through the cars.
Police said they found stolen prescription medication, a stolen iPod, cash and marijuana on him, which he admitted to having stolen out of a vehicle. He was charged with petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, obstructing governmental administration, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, all misdemeanors, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
He was released after being issued an appearance ticket to return to court on a future date for arraignment, police said.
