A garbage truck that caught fire forced the closure of Sandy Hollow Road in Southampton on Monday morning while firefighters doused the blaze.
The road was closed shortly after 9 a.m. as police awaited a tow truck to remove the charred truck.
The fire started as the truck exited the Emil Norsic & Son Inc. sanitation company’s property on Sandy Hollow Road and engulfed the cab and part of the hopper of the truck.
A Southampton Volunteer Ambulance crew was on sight but the driver was not hurt, according to witnesses at the scene.
Southampton Fire Department firefighters doused the flames by about 9:15 a.m.
