State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle is seeking support for legislation he is co-sponsoring that would create “NY Jobs For Heroes,” a program to help disabled veterans. The proposed legislation aims to provide service-connected disabled veterans preference for state contract awards.
“These disabled veterans deserve to have the state provide them with a little assistance after all that they have given for our country,” Senator LaValle said in a statement released by his office. “Veterans’ unemployment rates are double that of their civilian counterparts, so it’s the least we can do.”
Mr. LaValle noted that the newly proposed legislation mirrors a successful federal program and that more than 40 other states have similar measures.
