The Southampton Village fire marshal is investigating the cause of a blaze that destroyed part of a Gin Lane pool house on Wednesday afternoon, officials have confirmed.
According to Southampton Fire Department Second Assistant Chief Chris Brenner, the fire department received several calls reporting a column of smoke in the area of First Neck and Gin lanes just after 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Fire department officials began checking driveways in the area, and found a full working fire in the pool house at 472 Gin Lane.
Led by Chief Dennis Roy, first responders were able to make an interior attack on the blaze, and knocked it down relatively quickly while saving a good portion of the building.
According to Mr. Brenner, the fire was difficult to fight because of the freezing temperatures. He noted that the responders’ gloves and hoses were freezing over.
“The men and women of the fire department did a fantastic job in a very difficult situation,” Mr. Brenner said.
Fire officials were on scene for approximately an hour.
