Students will present Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor on Thursday, January 30. The performance is the culmination of the Shakespeare-in-Residence program at the school for the month of January.

The directors, members of Shakespeare & Company from Lenox, Massachusetts, are actor/educators Josephine Williams, Lori Evans and Caitlin Kraft. For four weeks Elizabethan life and times take hold of the curriculum.

Written in the late 16th century and set in ancient Athens, this comedy weaves plots of a royal wedding, fairy activities and a play within a play.

All students, parents and teachers are part of the production.

“I’m just having a great time. The directors really get us into Shakespeare,” commented 9-year-old Myla Dougherty of Shelter Island.

According to Hayground’s faculty chair Marcelle Langendal, “The children gain self assurance while learning literature and history.”

Performance times will be at 1 and 6 p.m. A donation of $10 is suggested.
