With the goal of keeping students moving and healthy over the winter months, the Wellness Committee kicked off its “Walk to Montauk Walkathon” challenge last Friday, January 31, during elementary recess. The wellness challenge for kindergarten through grade five encourages students to track their steps during recess and over the winter break. Kindergarten through grade two and grades three to five will compete to see which class can accumulate enough steps to walk the 21-mile journey to Montauk. Recess teacher Marie Hand and David Holmes will be checking off students’ laps around the gymnasium, outdoor track, and baseball field and steps will be tallied to track the journey. Maps of the South Fork will be displayed outside of each class showing their progress. The class who has walked the most steps will receive a smoothie party and MEGA recess at the end of February.

The Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports team announced its reward winners for the month of January. The student named Top Bee for elementary school is fifth-grader Zoe Lucas. On the middle school level, Aniya Coffee was the PBIS reward winner receiving a free lunch generously donated by Mickey B.’s deli in Bridgehampton.
