I took a quick walk through the farmers market in Riverhead on Saturday afternoon. It was the first day of the indoor market, which was being held in the old Swezey’s building at 117 East Main Street. The Riverhead Farmers Market will be open every Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., until May 17. Local vendors set up tables and are selling all different things and giving out samples. A female guitar player and vocalist provided background music. You can buy soap, beer, wine, baked goods, jams, fish, eggs, donuts, cheese, coffee and more.

Stop by some Saturday afternoon and check it out. With the Suffolk Theater across the street offering lots of different shows, it looks like the revival of Riverhead is happening. The Suffolk Theater will present Johnny Winter on Friday, February 7, Booker T on Sunday, February 16, and Rag Doll on Saturday, February 22. And they will celebrate their first anniversary with a special gala on Saturday, March 1.

Call the box office at (631) 727-4343 for all of the details.

The local grocery store was a busy place Sunday morning. Guys were lined up at the deli counter picking up heroes and salads. Hot sauce and wings were flying out of the store. Everyone seemed to be up and about super early for Super Bowl Sunday.

And, the groundhog saw his shadow on Sunday, February 2, so you know what that means …
