Applications are still being accepted for the federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, which provides income-eligible families with assistance in paying their energy bills.
According to a press release issued by National Grid, LIHEAP payments vary depending on household income and composition, and heating fuel costs in relation to income. Eligibility for the program varies, though those already receiving other public assistance, such as Supplemental Security Income or food stamps, are most likely also eligible for LIHEAP. Other households currently not receiving public assistance could still be eligible for the program as well.
Applications can be filled out with LIHEAP personnel at National Grid Customer Service Centers Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or online at www.nationalgridus.com.
For more information, call the LIHEAP hotline at 1-800-692-0557, call (631) 853-8820, or visit www.otda.state.ny.us/main/heap.
