Hampton Bays Community Notes, February 13


Happy Valentine’s Day to all of my sweethearts out there!Happy birthday to my hubby, Ron Holthaus! Ron’s red-letter day was yesterday, February 12. Denise Rosko’s cake-and-candle day is today, Thursday, February 13. Bob Loetscher’s b-day is on Sunday, February 16.

Tom Naro’s day to shine is Monday, February 17. Sue Loetscher and Jim Garity share the same birthday on Tuesday, February 18. And Don Stimpson’s big day falls on Wednesday, February 19. Man, that’s a lot of candle power!

We ventured over to the Riverhead Farmers Market last weekend, which is located in the old Swezey’s building at 117 East Main Street. The market will be open every Saturday, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., until May 17.

Loads of vendors were there, among them Blue Duck Bakery, Amy’s Ark, Castello di Borghese Vineyard, Southampton Soap, Papa Pasquale (and his fresh pasta), and lots more. What a great idea! Definitely worth a look-see.

In recognition of World Spay Day on Saturday, February 22, the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF), along with the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons and the North Fork Animal Welfare League are teaming up to do a mass trapping of feral cats on both forks of the East End.

SASF’s new Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic will be in East Quogue next week and then head on over to Southold in early March. Incidentally, the mobile clinic was awarded to the shelter last August through a grant from the ASPCA.

Bass baritone Gunter Stern will perform “Songs of the Heart” on Sunday, February 16, at 2 p.m., at the Hampton Bays Public Library, 52 Ponquogue Avenue. Come and enjoy a diverse mix of Broadway show tunes along with a few of the artist’s original compositions.

Jessica Swiatocha, manager of cardiopulmonary rehab and wellness services at Southampton Hospital’s Wellness Institute, will conduct a sleep remedy program on Wednesday, February 19, at 6:30 p.m., at the library. Learn some tips and natural sleep remedies that just might help you catch some Zs.

The Hampton Bays United Methodist Church is hosting its annual Spaghetti Dinner next week on Wednesday, February 19, at 6:30 p.m., in the Anderson-Warner Hall. Here’s the latest news from the college front. Marlena Portocarrero was named to the fall dean’s list at Hofstra University where she is majoring in legal studies in business. Caitlin Hansen achieved dean’s list honors at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. Caitlin is a senior majoring in special education.

Emma Hansen made the dean’s list at the University of New Hampshire up in Durham. And Maya Himmelsbach earned dean’s list honors at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. Maya is an elementary education major. Well done!
