The Southampton Cultural Center is now staging “CORETTA: Promise To The Dream” by award-winning writer/actress/director Tina Andrews.
This is the world premiere of the one-woman show based on the life of Coretta Scott King. Source material for the play comes from more than 120 hours of taped interviews between Ms. Andrews and Ms. King at her home in Atlanta, Georgia. Additionally, material from conversations with Dexter and Yolanda King, Ms. King’s children with her late husband, Martin Luther King Jr., and family friend, Andrew Young has been incorporated into the show. “CORETTA” brings to life Ms. King’s journey from a teenager picking cotton in Alabama to her career as a concert singer, to meeting and marrying Dr. King and becoming a partner in the Civil Rights Movement.
Ms. Andrews has acted in “Hello, Dolly,” “Roots” and on “Days Of Our Lives” and has written and produced films and series such as “Why Do Fools Fall In Love,” “Sally Hemings An American Scandal,” “Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis” and “Sistas ‘n the City.”
