Community First Recipient Presented With Check

The Press News Group Executive Editor Joseph Shaw presents a $500 check to Isabel Sepulveda de Scanlon, the 2013 recipient of The Press’s Community First Award. Ms. Sepulveda was nominated for her work in bridging the gap between the Spanish- and English-speaking communities on the East End. She co-founded Organizacion Latino-Americana (OLA) in 2002, something she cites as one of her proudest accomplishments. To further her mission, she has worked with local media outlets to show different sides of the Latino culture and, in 1999, started a local cable television show, “Vivo Los Hamptons,” which still airs new episodes. Seven years ago, she organized the first East End Latin American Film Festival. Ms. Sepulveda de Scanlon owns Isa Consignment store in Hampton Bays, served on the East Hampton Latino Advisory Board, and served as a community board member for the Watermill Center. The award money will be used to fund a children’s art project through OLA.
