Matilda J. Curley Dies In Westhampton Beach


Matilda J. Curley, affectionately known as Mattie, died on February 11 at the Westhampton Beach home she shared with daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Gabe Froehlich. She was 95.

Survivors said her local grandchildren, Nick, James and Luke Froehlich and Kate Mullane of Sag Harbor were happy she spent the final chapter of her life with them. Ms. Curley had been a resident of the Rockaways for 93 years. In the Hamptons, she was active at the Hampton Bays Senior Center and the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center’s Melodies and Memories program.

In addition to her daughter, Alice, and son-in-law, Gabe, she is survived by a daughter, Laura Regan and husband Peter; a son, Dr. John Curley and wife Mary; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Mullane and her husband, Kenneth.

Funeral services will be held at Denis O’Connor Funeral Home in Rockaway, on Friday, February 21. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Moore Church, also in Rockaway, on Sunday, February 22.
