I often wonder if every little hamlet is like ours here in Flanders. For such a small community, it is so very diverse, with different talents and lessons to offer. We pretty much have everything you can think of, from doctors and lawyers to mechanics and car salesmen to waiters and store clerks. Then we have the artistic sector—the singers, dancers, comedians, magicians and more.I cannot imagine another area so full of talent as ours, and an upcoming contest being put together by the Southampton Town Youth Bureau is expected to put that observation to the test. Auditions are being held this Friday, February 28, and next Friday, March 7, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. both days, for the inaugural “Hamptons Got Talent” competition.
Students in grades five to 12, and who live in the Town of Southampton, are invited to stop on down on those days at the Hampton Bays Community Center on Ponquogue Avenue and audition. Finalists will be selected to perform in the competition slated for Saturday, April 26, at the Hampton Bays High School.
Additional information about the auditions is available by calling the Youth Bureau at (631) 702-2432, or you can check out the website at www.southamptontownny.gov/youthbureau.
Please mark your calendars and plan on attending the Rotary Club of Riverhead’s annual spaghetti lunch/dinner that’s scheduled for Wednesday, March 12, over at the Riverhead Polish Hall on Marcy Avenue. This year’s fundraiser will include live music by Joey Luongo, along with the traditional spaghetti and meatballs fare, as well as some new menu items cooked up by the folks over at the Farm Country Kitchen in Riverhead. As always, diners will have the option to eat in or take home.
Tickets to the lunch, which runs from noon until 2 p.m., cost $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and $6 for children. The dinner runs from 4 to 8 p.m. and those tickets cost $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and $8 for kiddies.
You can buy your tickets from any of the Riverhead Rotarians, or pick them up at the door on March 12. Organizers will also be selling tickets for a 50/50 raffle and, as always, proceeds from this event will help fund the many programs supported by the Rotary Club of Riverhead. Please visit www.riverheadrotary.org if you require additional information.
Congratulations and best of luck to Kevin Williams of Riverhead who was named to the indoor track team at SUNY Delhi. We are looking forward to seeing great things from Mr. Williams, who is majoring in carpentry at the upstate school.
