March had threatened to come in like a lion but ended up not being so scary after all and, for that, we are all thankful. It does make one wonder, however, what will happen when it is supposed to “go out like a lamb” in a few weeks …I cannot take anymore snow or ice or cold so, hopefully, the lion and lamb got together and agreed that we have had enough. I know spring is right around the corner because the calendar tells me so. Between then and now, just continue to think warm thoughts everyone!
Those of you looking to warm up should stop by the Riverhead Polish Hall on Marcy Avenue this Wednesday, March 12, and enjoy a fantastic lunch or dinner courtesy of the Rotary Club of Riverhead. This is a very popular fundraiser, so you won’t want to miss out on the food—spaghetti and meatballs is on the menu—and the opportunity to support some great local charities and scholarships at the same time.
Lunch will be served from noon until 2 p.m. and those tickets cost $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and $6 for children. Dinner runs from 4 to 8 p.m. and those tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and $8 for children.
The folks over at the Farm Country Kitchen in Riverhead will be doing the cooking, so you know the food will be fantastic. Tickets will be sold at the door, or you can purchase them ahead of time from any Rotarian. Please visit www.riverheadrotary.org if you would like more information.
I’ve learned some exciting news about Alar Corwin of Riverhead, who is a music therapy major at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania. Alar has been selected to play in the college’s annual Flutefest on St. Patrick’s Day—Monday, March 17.
The Flutefest will feature students playing all members of the flute family, from piccolo to bass, as well as performances by the Arioso Flute Choir. They will perform some classical selections to go along with some Irish tunes in honor of the holiday.
It certainly sounds like a great time will be had. Enjoy, Alar, and best of luck!
The next regular meeting of the Bay View Pines Civic and Taxpayers Association will be held this Friday, March 7, at 7 p.m., at the David W. Crohan Community Center off Flanders Road in Flanders. Be sure to stop by for updates on the community and upcoming events.
